Company History

Epistemics was founded in 1993 by Professor Nigel Shadbolt and Steve Swallow with the intention of bringing to market commercially viable tools and methods for knowledge engineering.


1993-1997

In the years leading up to 1997, Epistemics was involved in three main activities:

  1. The development of knowledge-based systems on military projects for the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy
  2. The development of training and simulation systems
  3. The development of PCPACK v2 to become a commercially available product


Since 1997

From 1997, Epistemics have continued the military work and the development of PCPACK. In addition, expansion has taken place into two new areas:

  1. Knowledge Management, mainly by training and supporting customer's own knowledge engineers
  2. Research projects, primarily within knowledge engineering
