Battlespace Digitisation (BD) brings with it improved information gathering and increased digital communication. This creates a requirement for complex data analysis and support for those faced with more and more information. Thus, BD offers a promising opportunity for knowledge-based systems.

In this project, consultants from Epistemics investigated the impact of Battlespace Digitisation for FOAEW and assessed how knowledge-based systems could support airborne early warning (AEW) observers operating in that context. Epistemics drew on previous experience in the FOAEW domain and made use of the CommonKADS methodology to analyse the organisational context and identify opportunities for knowledge-based systems. The knowledge acquisition was carried out under the direction of DERA, Farnborough.
